Power Plate Technology : How Does It Work?

Acceleration Training™ with Power Plate® hire machines creates instability in the human body, as with each vibration the body is forced to perform reflexive muscle actions, multiple times per second. Furthermore, these contractions must work in multiple dimensions as the Power Plate® hire machines actually oscillate in all three planes, exactly as the human body is designed to do. The net result is an incredible improvement in force production, or strength and power.

The principle by which Power Plate® hire machines work lies in the law of motion, stated by Sir Isaac Newton: that the force of an object is equal to its mass multiplied by acceleration, or f = m x a. What this means is that one can improve functional force (stability, strength or power) by either applying more mass or more acceleration to the body. Many forms of training and conditioning use mass - as seen in methods with weight machines, free weights, etc. Power Plate® hire machines, instead, use the second half of this equation, by applying acceleration to the body, while keeping mass, i.e. your body weight, the same.

This is a real breakthrough in training and conditioning as we can now optimally "load" the human frame while minimizing high impact, high load, and high stress factors. Gravity is the force that adds load to the human body every second of every day for every movement we perform. Power Plate Where Can I have it ? In My Home ?

Power Plate® hire machines are available for delivery to your home. They must be set up on the ground floor. It is not possible to arrange delivery of a Power Plate® hire machine to a flat.

  • The machine should be set-up on a hard, level surface in an area free of obstructions within at least three fee of the vibration platform.
  • The machine should not be used outdoors, near a pool, or near any source of water or extreme humidity.

Exercise time, Number of exercises and rest time

These settings depend completely on your training goals. If you are new to Acceleration Training™ sessions, we recommend performing only a few exercises and resting for the same amount of time as is spent actively using the Power Plate® hire machine. After a while, more exercises can be added.

When trying to accomplish weight loss, cardiovascular or endurance improvements, rest time can be reduced, exercise time can be extended and the number of exercises can be increased to add to the total volume of training.

For recovery, flexibility and preparation, it is better to perform specific exercises and keep the total volume low, with enough rest between exercises.

Example: If you are training for endurance or weight loss goals, you should progressively extend the duration of training to:multiple sets of 60 seconds each and cut the rest period to 30 seconds or less between subsequent sets. If your goal is to achieve maximum strength or power, you should do multiple sets of short duration on high amplitude, and take long rest periods, from 1 to 4 minutes.
